FEM is a Baltic Sea Region Interreg III B project, part-financed by the EU Regional Development Fund. The aim of FEM is to strengthen the structures that support women’s entrepreneurship through co-operation and the exchange of knowledge and best practices in the participating countries. FEM began in August 2004 and will last for three years. The participating countries are Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.

Four regions from Finland are involved in the project: South-Ostrobotnia, North-Carelia, Kainuu and Päijät-Häme. The Swedish regions involved are Skåne, Kalmar, Östergötland, Jönköping and Skaraborg, all from Southern Sweden. The Polish regions involved are Pomeranian and Westpomeranian regions in the northern part of the country.

FEM consists of five work packages

WP 1 Creating transnational networks of Resource Centres and Meeting Places to strengthen the role of women in society and in local and regional development.
WP 2 Networks of training and exchange of experience for the advisors
WP 3 Mentorship Program for female entrepreneurs
WP 4 Networking in Network Credit Groups and other financial solutions for female entrepreneurs
WP 5 Internationalisation of women’s entrepreneurship
